Alexis King

Alexis is an Oklahoma native who travelled to California in search of art, nature, and adventure. She graduated from Cal Poly in 2012 with a degree in Art and Design. Her love of art guided her towards the practice of yoga as a means of personal expression, stress relief and inner peace. Alexis studied under Roxy Borger and Jonathan Gabriel in the Smiling Dog Yoga teacher training class of 2015/2016, earning her RYC 200 hour certification. Her teaching style combines fluid movement, connection with breath, mindfulness, and acceptance of self. Alexis believes that yoga is a means for deepening respect and love of the body, mind and spirit by embracing and celebrating all shapes, sizes, and abilities in her classes. Aside from yoga, Alexis works in social services at a non-profit organization and as a tattoo artist specializing in custom, hand-poked designs.

Becca Ward

Rebecca has just returned to the Central Coast after living in Australia for the past four years. She thoroughly enjoys being active and is constantly striving to learn more about fitness, wellness, and helping others live happy, healthy lives. Rebecca turned to Pilates four years ago when suffering significant pain and injuries due to years of intensive dance and soccer training. Having multiple surgeries, she credits Pilates for accelerating her rehabilitation and permitting a full recovery. After practicing Pilates as a student, Rebecca decided to pass on the benefits to others and received her mat and reformer Pilates certifications in Australia through Studio Pilates International. She also became certified in the leading Australian program, Barre Attack. She prides herself on teaching each client correct technique in order to improve, grow stronger, gain body awareness, look better, and most importantly to feel confident about his/her inner and outer self. Rebecca aims to provide well-rounded and challenging workouts in a fun and safe environment. When not teaching Pilates or joyfully teaching children, Rebecca is hiking, fly fishing, and enjoying the great outdoors with her husband Eric!

Ahmed Fahmy

Originally from Cairo, Egypt, Ahmed has studied yoga since 2000, both Indian and Egyptian forms. He's trained with Jody Kamator and Next Generation Yoga for Kids and found he was a natural teacher. Ahmed also teaches hatha yoga with a multi-cultural approach. His DVD for children, Storyland Yoga was released in 2010 and has received much recognition, included the Parent's Choice Award for quality educational programming for children.

Alison Zikratch

Ali has a long history of fitness and athletics, which has enabled her to be a well-rounded instructor who pulls from different influences and teachings. She played D1 soccer her freshman year, until she had a serious foot and shoulder injury and decided to retire from the sport. It was then when she was first introduced to Pilates. She quickly decided she not only wanted to practice, but to also teach, as Pilates had helped her body heal and recover from years of physical sports. She believes in the necessity of variety, and loves all types of activities. Some of her favorites include Pilates, Yoga, Barre, hiking, running, and anything that involves competition. Ali is also a certified Tabata Bootcamp instructor, and loves being able to get a full workout with just her body weight. She believes that the first step with fitness is getting over your fear. The fear that it will be hard, or embarrassing, or that you may not know the movements. Once that fear is set aside, fitness becomes fun, and you begin to welcome the challenge. She hopes to see you in class!

Chelsea Leiby

Chelsea began dancing around the age of 4 and didn’t stop until she was in her early 20’s. She decided to stop and focus on her studies to become a special education teacher. Teaching individuals with special needs and emotional disturbances began to take a toll on Chelsea, and she found it hard not to take her work home. She then enrolled in yoga to help her deal with the stress and emotional drainage. Yoga helped her immensely and opened her eyes to a beautiful journey she was so excited to embark on. She began using her yoga practices throughout her day and even with her students. She found peace in everything she did, and attributes it to yoga. After a few years of consistent practice, Chelsea decided to become a yoga teacher. She wanted to help share the magic of yoga with everyone. She received her yoga certification through our very own Smiling Dog Yoga studio under Roxy Banta and J Gabriel. Chelsea has a great passion for people and yoga and is so excited to share that with students at Smiling Dog. When she is not practicing yoga, Chelsea likes to spend time with her family. She loves the beach and you can find her in Avila just about every weekend with her husband and smiling dog, Oliver.

Chandra Hardester

Chandra is Studio Director at Smiling Dog Yoga. The daughter of a nationally ranked cheerleading coach mother and a state wrestling champion father, one of Chandra’s earliest memories is of stretching and exercising. She spent time in gymnastics, figure skating, and track and field, before ultimately falling in love with ballet for it’s unique combination of athleticism and art.
After an early career as a professional dancer, teacher, and choreographer with the San Francisco Ballet and other Bay Area based companies, an injury led Chandra down a different path. She studied Broadcast Journalism and Mass Communications at San Diego State University before falling in love with the beauty and kindness of the Central Coast, and moving to attend Cal Poly SLO. Following a second career in corporate multi-store retail leadership, a loss in the family caused her to follow her true passion for coaching and motivating people, with her immense drive to inspire others thru the science and art of health and fitness.
Chandra found yoga as an effective tool for healing old injuries & restoring full functionality back to her body. After having experienced the immense benefits of yoga first hand, she was inspired to attain her 200-RYT at Smiling Dog Yoga under Valentina Petrova. Chandra holds additional certifications in Primary Group Fitness and Practical Pilates thru AFAA, YOBarre thru SDY, American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED, and is currently completing an additional 200-RYT in Core Strength Vinyasa with Sadie Nardini, as well as a certification in Jillian Michael's BodyShred. When not at the studio, Chandra can be found reading fitness, barre, and yoga anatomy books on the beach, binge watching mindless Bravo TV shows while working out, DIYing various arts & crafts, or feeding her retail addiction. She looks forward to welcoming you to The Dog, and can't wait to show you all our amazing community has to offer!
Sweat 'N Sip is every Friday night at 5:30pm, and is designed to kick off your weekend with a vigorous class, "Sweat", and a gathering with the SDY community, "Sip".  The class will rotate between four class types and instructors every week; Baron Baptiste Power Yoga, YOBarre, Strong Vinyasa and Strong Hatha.  Each class will be an hour and fifteen minutes in length followed by complimentary wine, tea, and Kombucha.  The rotation is designed to allow you to try all classes and maintain a variety of classes and experience amazing teachers who are gifted in their craft! The sip is to allow you to get to know your fellow students, mingle with our staff and teachers and bring your guests to introduce them to your SDY family!
