Pranayama II: Deepening the Relationship with Prana
Sat, Nov 18, 2017 at 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
We always hear breath is the foundation of the practice and yet we are rarely offered the opportunity to build the foundation of breath in a fundamental way. Until now....!
In this 3h Part II workshop we will learn what Pranayama means and how it relates to the practice of both Yoga as a whole and Asana as its part. We will learn what prana is and how it is different from breath and air as well as the various types of pranayama and what these techniques are for. The workshop will be equal parts experiential as lecture and you will leave enlightened and inspired. This is wonderful for beginner practitioners as well as those who are seasoned and also who are teaching.
Topics will include:
- Prana vs. Air vs. Breath
- 5 Vayus
- Nadi Therapies (Chikitsa)
- Kumbakas (Retentions) + Bandhas (Locks)
- Pranayama + Kosha (Body "sheeth" theory)
- How Pranayama relates to Sympathetic Nervous System vs. Parasympathetic Nervous System vs. Homeostatis
- Variety of Breath practices and how to combine them with each other as well as asanas
- How to adapt breath practices for specific goals of balance and harmony
This enrollment runs from Tue Nov 7, 2017 - Tue Dec 5, 2017
Yoga’s flowing movements help tone and stimulate muscles and bones in a gentle and relaxing manner. The breathing exercises help to calm the nervous system and encourage deep relaxation. A Yoga practice during pregnancy may help create a more positive pregnancy experience and aid in labor and delivery. During the prenatal Yoga series, mama’s will be encouraged to create a small supportive community with each other as they practice Yoga sequences aimed at creating space within their bodies for their growing babies.
Price: $75 (Register early as enrollment is limited to 8.)

Gratitude: A Thanksgiving Practice
Thu, Nov 23, 2017 at 9:00 am - 11:00 am
This Thanksgiving, join Marissa Bloom in an all-levels practice to focus on the real reason for this holiday: giving thanks. Come open your hips, open your hearts, and find your inner calm at the beginning of this hectic holiday season. This extra-long class is perfectly placed during the holiday morning so pop that turkey (or tofurky) in the oven, join us for class, and then enjoy the rest of the holiday relaxed and rejuvenated.
“The foundation of my spiritual life is gratitude. Gratitude is my connection to the real, to the good vibration, to the universe. This is my starting point. From there, anchored in the real, I can go out into the world mindful of my place in things, aware of my connectedness to all beings, of our interdependence, of our oneness.” –Rolf Gates.
In the dictionary 'gratitude,' is defined as 'an appreciative awareness and thankfulness, as for kindness shown or something received.' Everyday we receive beautiful gifts, breathtaking moments, and the opportunity to change and grow.
For many, Thanksgiving is seen as the beginning of the holidays and the ending of another year. As we look toward the beginning of a new year and the closing of an old, start with a focus of gratitude-- of giving thanks for the wonders in our lives, our world, the beautiful people surrounding us, and our own selves. We can use this holiday as a reminder to prepare for the busy holiday season with humility, gratitude, presence, and grace more than just shopping lists and tight schedules. We can set an intention throughout this season to sincerely give thanks with an appreciative awareness for all that we receive. Join Marissa to begin this beautiful season with joy, peace, and gratitude.
