Chandra is our Studio Director and a certified YOBarre Instructor at Smiling Dog Yoga. The daughter of a nationally ranked cheerleading coach mother and a state wrestling champion father, one of Chandra’s earliest memories is of stretching and exercising. She spent time in gymnastics, figure skating, and track and field, before ultimately falling in love with ballet for it’s unique combination of athleticism and art. After a young career spent as a professional dancer, instructor, and choreographer with The Oakland Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, and the Theatre Ballet of San Francisco, an injury took her down a different path into retail leadership and talent development. Chandra discovered yoga as a way to ground herself after long work days, and after experiencing its’ vast benefits was inspired to enter a new career in wellness. When not at the front desk, Chandra can be found studying for her RYT-200 at SDY, on the mat, at the barre, or most likely doing both at the same time in YOBarre class. Chandra isn’t quite sure what took her so long to become an avid yogi, and she looks forward to helping others experience all of the benefits our yoga oasis has to offer.

Roxy's been teaching yoga since 2008.  She has trained with Iyengar Yoga, Baptiste Power Yoga, and is a certified Prana Flow Yoga instructor (E-RYT 200) which is where she's been spending most of her time studying and practicing since 2009.  She's currently working on her RYT 500 hour yoga teacher training certification with Prana Flow Yoga and Shiva Rea.

In addition to her work with Smiling Dog Yoga, Roxy also oversees Client Education at MINDBODY, Inc.  and moonlights as a as a Consultant to wellness businesses.  Roxy loves spreadsheets and teaching.  She has experience in management, event planning, customer service, database programming, and lecturing at the university level.  She grew up in Detroit, Michigan and loves using her hand as a map whenever she gets the chance.  Just ask.  Check out her blog for yoga inspired rants.

Alison Bode has a long history of interest in health and fitness, but made a point of avoiding yoga for years because she was never very flexible. With the encouragement of a friend, she attended her first yoga class in 2010. She loved the feeling of peace and grounding it gave her and has been hooked ever since.

Alison received her B.A in Philosophy from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo in 2011. After graduation, she went on to study massage at California Holistic Institute, Esalen Institute and The Academy of Clinical Massage. In 2016, Alison completed her yoga teacher training at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, North America’s largest residential center for holistic health education.

In her yoga teaching, Alison approaches each person as an individual. It is her strong belief that yoga is for everyone. Her teaching is based in Kripalu yoga; often described as mindful hatha practice or meditation in motion, Kripalu yoga moves at a moderate pace, with room for both quiet and fiery approaches within the same session. Kripalu yoga places a special emphasis on using the wisdom of your own body, breath, and inner voice to find the right combination of exertion, release and restoration for each individual. Alison takes care to teach classes that can accommodate a wide variety of experiences; she is committed to helping others connect to their own bodies and experiences through breath and meditative movement. Always learning more, Alison is currently working towards a masters degree in Occupational Therapy."

Alexis is an Oklahoma native who travelled to California in search of art, nature, and adventure. She graduated from Cal Poly in 2012 with a degree in Art and Design. Alexis studied under Roxy Borger and Jonathan Gabriel in the Smiling Dog Yoga teacher training class of 2015/2016, earning her RYC 200 hour certification. Her teaching style combines fluid movement, connection with breath, mindfulness, and acceptance of self. Alexis believes that yoga is a means for deepening respect and love of the body, mind and spirit by embracing and celebrating all shapes, sizes, and abilities in her classes. Aside from yoga, Alexis works in social services at a non-profit organization and as a tattoo artist specializing in custom, hand-poked designs.
Britt Migrated from Orange County six years ago and now lives in lovely little Morro Bay. She always maintained a pretty active lifestyle and spent most of her adolescent and teen years swimming, running, and golfing. About seven years ago she was experiencing severe neck and back pain from a car accident and was drawn to a restorative yoga class as way to help ease her pain. As she got deeper into her practice she had the privilege to get to know so many wonderful yogis within the yoga community which eventually inspired her to obtain her 200-hour teacher training certification through our very own, Smiling Dog Yoga. Britt's focus is offering a practice that is welcoming to all levels. Britt is excited to be apart of the community and delighted to share her experience with others.
