An elderly dog is heartlessly abandoned by its family, left chained up outside after they relocate.

It is deeply disturbing when anyone causes harm or distress to a defenseless and innocent dog. Unfortunately, this was the fate that befell Athena, an elderly dog who was callously abandoned by her family when they decided to move.

Athena had spent most of her life with this family in Nikolaevka, Bulgaria, providing them with love and loyalty. However, when they relocated to a new home, they heartlessly left Athena behind, considering her too old and disposable, like a broken piece of furniture.

Without hesitation, Nagel rescued Athena and brought her to the shelter, where she received nourishment, medical care, and a much-needed bath. Most importantly, Athena received the love and compassion she deserved. As her recovery began, the shelter staff faced the challenge of finding her a new home, aware that older dogs often struggle to find forever homes due to people’s preference for puppies.

However, Athena’s luck changed when a family saw her photo on social media and felt a connection. They recognized her strength and resilience in overcoming the hardships life had thrown her way. They saw her not as old and worthless but as a fighter who deserved a second chance.

Now, Athena spends her days with a family that truly cares for her, in a spacious environment where she can explore and thrive. She is no longer confined to one place but embraced as a cherished member of the family. Her new family understood the lifelong commitment that comes with owning a dog and refused to turn their backs on her, unlike her previous owners.
