The animal care team member, Kylie Linke, provided an update on the rare ocelot kitten and its mother in a recent press release. According to her, both the mother and kitten are doing well, and the kitten is eating like a champion. Milagre, the mother, has been very cooperative during the weighing process, and Linke mentioned that they have already witnessed the kitten’s personality as he starts to explore his surroundings. In just three weeks, he has already gained over 500g and is now weighing more than 700g. Although he does not have a name yet, the animal care team has developed a fondness for him.

These beautiful creatures were nearly driven to extinction by hunters who sought after their shiny fur coats. The ocelot kitten is currently under care and won’t be available for public viewing until eight weeks later, after receiving all necessary vaccinations. The veterinary team is taking good care of the kitten, and updates about its name and debut date will be posted on the zoo’s social media page. The kitten’s mother, Milagre, had mammary gland issues when nursing her previous litter, so the kitten is being weighed twice a week to ensure good health. Despite this, the kitten is thriving and in good hands. The Audubon Zoo has shared an adorable clip of the kitten being cute. Ludovico Feoli, a board member of Audubon Nature Institute and Zemurray Foundation, expressed his joy about the kitten’s birth and how it serves as a reminder of hope and renewal in all life. The ocelot kitten, like his parents, will serve as an ambassador for Central and South American animals to the people of New Orleans, inspiring visitors to make a positive impact on wildlife worldwide.
