Baris, the Turkish word for ‘peace’, turned out to be one lucky feline! Despite the ongoing attacks in al-Bab, the eight-month-old kitten was discovered and fortunately unharmed. It’s a miracle that he managed to survive without any injuries during such tumultuous times.
In February, a Turkish soldier found Baris during the Euphrates Shield Operation and brought him to a shelter called the Improving the Life of Living Animals Association in Ganziantep. The cat quickly rose to fame after his story was shared on the internet and in various newspapers, even trending on Reddit.

The cat that once captured the hearts of many people has finally found a new home. The shelter where he was taken in was overwhelmed with adoption applications from people who were eager to welcome the furry feline into their lives. Fortunately, he now resides in a cozy bookshop owned by Kirmizi Kedi Publishing House located in Istanbul. Baris has finally found a loving family that will take good care of him.
Haluk Hepkon, the owner of a bookstore, recently welcomed a new member to his team – a cat named Baris. Haluk sent an employee to bring Baris to Istanbul where he has been enjoying his time lounging on books and greeting customers for about a week now. According to Haluk, Baris has quickly become the most precious member of staff at the store.
It is fitting that Baris will spend his life in a publishing house called ‘Red Cat’. This is the perfect conclusion to his story. We must not forget the kindness that this soldier showed. Let us hope that Syria and the Middle East will also find peace.
