Back in 2019, a post on Facebook caught the attention of an Arkansas resident. The post featured a heart-wrenching image of a cat that was found in the woods, starving and with a broken leg. The poor feline was in critical medical condition and needed immediate help. Fortunately, this cat’s rescue journey is nothing short of incredible. After spotting the post, the resident reported seeing an adult grey cat limping out of the woods, seeking shelter. Shadi Delshad, who works with National Kitty, got wind of the situation and sprang into action. She reached out to the woman who made the Facebook post and offered to take the cat in. Upon seeing the cat in person, Delshad was devastated to find that the cat was in even worse condition than she had expected.

The poor creature was famished. His once plump body was now nothing but skin and bones, while ticks had taken up residence on his skin. Plus, it was evident that one of his front legs was severely damaged as he struggled to move around. It seemed he had been stranded in the wilderness for quite some time without any assistance. With a broken leg, he couldn’t possibly fend for himself, and it was a wonder he survived this long.
When Shadi encountered Davy Crocket, the first thing he did was offer him some food. As he watched Davy eat, Shadi experienced a range of emotions. He was happy to see Davy nourishing himself, but at the same time, it was a painful reminder of how long Davy had gone without proper nourishment.
After experiencing hunger and loneliness, he felt a sense of gratitude when he finally received food and someone to look after him. The way he expressed his thankfulness was through gentle nudges against Shadi’s hands. Despite facing difficulties, this feline proved to be a fighter. Shadi decided to give him a name that reflected his strength and resilience – Davy, after the inspiring American pioneer and legend, Davy Crockett.
The Journey towards Healing The following day, Shadi accompanied Davy to the animal hospital. Upon conducting x-rays, the veterinarian confirmed that Davy’s arm was severely fractured and required surgical intervention for healing.
Davy had to go through an urgent surgical operation and as soon as he regained consciousness, the focus was shifted to his recovery. The veterinarian predicted a recovery period of several months due to his bones needing time to heal. Davy was in a delicate state for the initial few weeks.
As he walked, he swayed and slept for extended periods. All he desired was to be cuddled and given food. Shadi and Shaun were extremely attentive to him and monitored his development closely.
A Pleasant Surprise Following his surgery, Davy visited the vet for a routine check-up, vaccinations and parasite treatment. Shadi and Shaun were taken aback to discover that Davy had been neutered before his adoption which meant someone else had previously owned him.
It was understandable. Davy had a sociable nature and showed no signs of being afraid of people. However, there was no information on his previous owners since he lacked a microchip. It’s a mystery how this lovely and docile creature wound up wounded in the forest.
Shadi and Shaun dedicated a considerable amount of time to taking care of Davy and helping him recover over the past few months. Now, it was time for the sweet pup to find his permanent family.
Shadi decided to share Davy’s story on social media and uploaded some adorable pictures of him. She knew it would be a challenge to find him a forever home since he was already an adult cat. Unfortunately, many people tend to adopt only kittens.
Davy’s heartwarming story touched the hearts of many, yet there were only a few who showed interest in adopting him. Shadi, Davy’s caretaker, was on the brink of losing hope when an old friend extended a helping hand. Fortunately, Alex Washam and his girlfriend Rachel Wilson came across Davy’s story and decided to give him a forever home. It was a happy ending for everyone involved.
The following week, Shadi arranged a meeting between Rachel, Alex, and himself to take little Davy to his new home. It was clear that Davey had found the perfect match with Rachel and Alex, who went out of their way to make him feel welcomed and comfortable.
Davy is currently living with a loving and caring family that he can call his own. Not only that, he also has two feline companions that keep him company. Rachel and Alex take pleasure in accompanying Davy on his strolls, allowing him to bask under the warmth of the sun while he discovers new things. He is genuinely cherished by his new family, and they can’t picture living without him. Davy is now living a happy life, and it seems like his fairy tale ending has come true.
