The Cat
When my cats see me doing something besides paying attention to them, especially Mikey, they start performing different tricks, or even making a mess, just to get my attention.
Cats are very clever and cunning animals; they know how to get what they want, and this handsome ginger boy named Mayhem is no exception.

Mayhem was abandoned by his previous family and ended up at Lollypop Farm, an animal shelter in Fairport, New York. At the time, he was around two years old and was very friendly, playful, and charming.
With his lovable personality, he immediately won over the hearts of the shelter staff and even managed to secure a room all to himself. The room was filled with various cat toys to keep him entertained, as he was a very energetic cat.
Unfortunately, Mayhem’s high energy proved to be both a blessing and a curse. He was adopted once again, but after a short period of time, the owners returned him, citing that he was “too energetic”.
He continued to live in the same shelter where he was well taken care of, but it was clear that something was missing. Like every shelter cat, Mayhem yearned for a loving home and to be adopted. However, as visitors came and went without showing much interest in him, it seemed as though Mayhem decided to take matters into his own paws.
Mayhem was housed in a room with a glass door, so he began waving at everyone who passed by him, hoping that someone would finally take notice of him and fall in love with him.
Despite his past negative experiences, Mayhem never lost hope and continued to believe that his purr-fect family still existed.
When I look at his photo, I can’t help but wonder how anyone could just pass him by. I mean, look at him! He’s adorable, and his big, round eyes just make you want to take him home with you.
Fortunately, Mayhem was a smart cat and his act of waving started to attract attention. Once the animal shelter shared his video on social media, it quickly went viral. Soon, Mayhem became very popular. However, despite all the attention, he continued to wait patiently for his forever family to come and adopt him.
After some time, the shelter shared the best news ever on Instagram. It appeared that Mayhem’s plan had worked, and his loving new family was finally coming to adopt him.
In the caption of the video of Mayhem waving, the shelter wrote: “Thank you for everyone’s interest in Mayhem. Mayhem was actually adopted back in 2020, but his video still goes viral from time to time.”
Upon hearing the news, I was overjoyed. It’s amazing how wonderful things can happen when you have patience and believe. And that’s exactly what Mayhem did – he never gave up, not even after being abandoned twice.
I truly hope that Mayhem is living his best life now with the family he deserves. He’s a shining example of how animals can overcome adversity and find their happily ever after.
